Ecoplace
OVERVIEW

Bousfields was retained by Cortel Group to provide planning services relating to the proposed Ecoplace Community by the Lake. Located in south Whitby at the northwest corner of Victoria Street and Gordon Street, Ecoplace is a proposed transit-oriented mixed-use community with a range of office, residential and retail and service commercial uses over 34 hectares. It is envisioned as a compact and sustainable community to live, work and play in proximity to the Whitby Go Station.

Bousfields’ skill-set contributed to several aspects of the Ecoplace development, including project management, planning policy and urban design. As the majority of the subject site is currently designated for business park uses in the Lynde Shores Secondary Plan, amendments to the Official Plan were filed in 2007 to permit the proposed residential uses. The proposal has resulted in several complex planning issues relating to employment lands, leading to an OMB appeal which is currently ongoing.
