It’s always fun to get to chat with students about the work we do! Bousfielders from our Community Engagement Team, Simone Hodgson and Lewis Walker, spoke to students at @uoft this week as part of Professor Aditi Mehta’s (@aditimehta12) Introduction to Urban Studies course. Thank you to Professor Mehta and the students for welcoming us, and asking lots of engaging and insightful questions!

Bousfielders had a great time last night celebrating Black History/Futures Month with a visit to the AGO to check out ‘The Culture: Hip Hop and Contemporary Art in the 21st Century’ Exhibit, followed by a celebration of the 7th day of the Lunar New Year with a delicious hot pot dinner at Happy Lamb Hot Pot!

We are excited to be part of the transforming of such a special building, in both Toronto’s history and skyline—The Hearn Generating Station—into a new mixed-use destination in the heart of the Port Lands. One of Canada’s largest buildings, The Hearn will become part of the long-term plan to transform the waterfront district into a vibrant community with new uses and programming. As December comes to a close, we wanted to extend a big thank you to our amazing interns who will be returning to their studies in the new year! Here are some of the key takeaways they shared with us about their internship experience: “I worked here for 8 months and learned so much about the intricacies of planning and how beautiful and complex it is. I got to work alongside a fantastic team and learn so much from each of them through their journeys and experiences. I will take these lessons with me as I begin to explore my career beyond school.” - Amanda Ferguson “My eight months at Bousfields have been incredibly valuable. I’ve learned so much from everyone at the company, especially working alongside Team Lennox every day. I gained a true understanding of the planning profession, from the process itself to the preparation of materials and all the steps in between. Bousfields offers an exceptional experience for students, providing the tools to grow, where the team is always ready to share knowledge and answer questions. Beyond planning, the team at Bousfields really embraces new staff, creating an exciting and welcoming atmosphere with frequent social events. Ramani is part of the glue that binds Bousfields, working on the Operations team since 2019, she has more than 15 years’ experience in finance and accounts management. Ramani oversees the accounting process at Bousfields, along with other members of the Finance team, Ramani manages our internal controls, supporting the annual auditing process and ensuring our staff get paid accurately and on time. When Ramani is not working with numbers, she loves to cook traditional Sri Lankan dishes, especially Mutton & Crab!

Jeramine joined Bousfields’ operations team on March 1, 2021 as a Billing and Accounts Receivable Specialist. With accounting acumen and experience in promoting continuous improvement, she provides important assistance to the operations team and supports partners’ and clients’ needs.

Grace holds a Master’s degree of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business at York University. She is also a Chartered Professional Accountant.

Jessica Nigh joined Bousfields as the Human Resource Manager in 2021. With more than 15 years’ experience working as a human resources professional for small-to mid-size companies, she has a strong background in all areas of Human Resources. Jessica is passionate about people and the place they spend most of their day (work!), aiming to support the needs of the organization and foster the growth of employees at Bousfields on a daily basis. Jessica has led a number of workplace initiatives as it relates to policy development, payroll, recruitment, performance and professional development, employee engagement and training.   Jessica is a graduate of Western University with a Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies and a post-grad certificate in Human Resources. She is an active member of the Human Resources Professional Association (HRPA) and National Payroll Institute and is a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP), Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) and Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP).
