Big congrats to Rayah Flash, the recipient of the Bousfields Graduate Entrance Award at TMU, honouring future planning leaders. Rayah’s dedication of planning, place-making, and creating vibrant communities inspires us all! Bousfields Senior Associate Alex Savanyu (and TUM alum) was in attendance to present Raya with the award at the TMU ceremony.

Bousfielders had a great time attending a number of Jane’s Walks last weekend all around the city. From Little India to Bathurst & Harbord, it was fun to run into fellow urbanists and continue to learn even more about our neighbourhoods and communities.   Walk With Us was the 2025 theme of Jane’s Walk Toronto —an open invitation to explore, connect, and share stories through walking. We’re thrilled to announce that our Community Engagement team is leading the engagement process, guiding conversation around the future of the St. George campus! We’re excited to partner with ICE (Indigenous and Community Engagement), a 100% Indigenous-owned firm, leading the Indigenous engagement efforts. Together with @uoft University Planning, @gehlpeople (the Public Space and Public Life Study team), as well as the Public Realm Plan design team, we’re looking to build a vision for a vibrant, sustainable and inclusive campus!

March was International Women’s Month, and International Women’s Day was celebrated on Saturday, March 8 this year. This year’s theme was ‘Accelerate Action’. This past month we asked women at Bousfields to share some thoughts on #IWD / #IWM and ways to #AccelerateAction. Be sure to swipe through to read what some of them shared! Gabriela is a Graphic Designer, with a focus on Brand and Identity design. Her design education began at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) as a 2013 graduate with an Associate Certificate of Design (Distinction). Inspired to learn more, Gabriela continued her education, with earning a diploma from the Visual College of Art & Design (VCAD) in 2015, where she presented her work in the VCAD Portfolio Show held at the Harbour Centre in Vancouver, BC.

Gabriela looks at each project from every angle, to create fresh ideas and appropriate designs. Her work at Bousfields includes, but is not limited to; production design, preparation of graphics for the Planning and Community Engagement departments, website design, designing marketing materials specifically for social media marketing, and company branding.

Claudia Kovalev

Claudia joined Bousfields in November 2011 as an urban designer. Prior to joining the firm, Claudia worked on numerous architectural projects in Canada and Peru. She has experience in masterplanning, design development and construction review of architectural and urban design projects. Her responsibilities at Bousfields include preparation of the assessment of built form options; built form impact analysis, including shadow, angular plane and view analysis; and zoning by-law schedules. Assisting in the preparation of planning and urban design rationales in addition to avenue segment studies related to proposed developments, urban design guidelines, urban design briefs; and land use planning and urban design evidence for Ontario Land Tribunal hearings.

Claudia is currently a Pre-candidate member of the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) and Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP); and a OAA Intern Architect working towards full Membership. She is also a full member of the Architects Association of Peru (CAP).
